EUROPEAN OBSERVATORY OF HEALTH INEQUALITIES
The European Observatory of Health Inequalities is an interfaculty unit at the President Stanisław Wojciechowski State University of Applied Sciences in Kalisz. The Observatory was created by virtue of the University Senate Resolution of April 19, 2018.
The Observatory closely cooperates with the Health Promotion Foundation, which has been actively working since 1991 to build health competences of Poles and to prevent and eradicate chronic diseases. The main goal of the Foundation’s work is to popularize non-smoking and other beneficial health behaviours as a lifestyle. The Foundation conducts numerous health campaigns, research, prepares scientific and educational publications as well as organizes training programmes. The President Stanisław Wojciechowski State University of Applied Sciences in Kalisz have conducted scientific cooperation with the “Health Promotion” Foundation since May 6, 2016.
The President Stanisław Wojciechowski State University of Applied Sciences in Kalisz and the Health Promotion Foundation jointly publish the English-language scientific journal Journal of Health Inequalities, which is devoted to problems related to discrepancies in access to health in Poland and other European countries, key factors influencing the health of society and broader issues of global public health.
The head of the European Observatory of Health Inequalities is Professor Witold Zatoński, MD – a doctor since 1966, professor of medicine, doctor honoris causa of the University of Aberdeen in Great Britain. Between 1966 and 1979 he worked as an internist (post-doctoral degree) and as a biochemist at the Medical Academy in Wrocław. Then, until 2016 he was the director in the Division of Epidemiology and Prevention at the Maria Skłodowska Curie Memorial Cancer Centre and Institute of Oncology in Warsaw, Poland. Professor Zatoński is the founder and the President of the Health Promotion Foundation.
