Physiotherapy is a rapidly growing field of modern medicine, the basis for rehabilitation and complementary treatment. During the three-year undergraduate degree course students gain the qualifications necessary to take up the job of a physiotherapist immediately after graduation.

The importance of physiotherapy in the modern world is huge as it complements pharmacological and operational treatment and provides the basis for rehabilitation. Also, by preventing complications and strengthening the body’s natural defense processes it is irreplaceable in the prevention of many diseases.  Physiotherapy provides a vital part of treatment accelerating recovery after physical exertion and after work in everyday life.

The programmme includes knowledge of the structure and functions of the organs of the human body, the rights and mechanisms governing these functions in health and disease as well as the methods of treatment of disease. Students acquire the knowledge by participating in lectures and practical classes in core subjects, among others Anatomy, Physiology, General and Clinical Pathology, Biophysics, Biomechanics, Biochemistry as well as Medical Biology. To get to know the rules, methods, techniques and approaches of

Physiotherapy, they are trained in labs and hospital wards where within their core and specialisation subjects they study numerous physiotherapy methods such as  kinesitherapy, massage, electrotherapy, magnet therapy, phototherapy with laser therapy, ultrasonotherapy, hydrotherapy or balneotherapy.   Students get to know Physiotherapy in all disciplines of clinical medicine, including internal medicine, cardiology,  neurology, pulmonology, othopaedics, gynaecology and paediatrics. The curriculum includes learning foreign languages and physical education classes, including improvement of swimming skills.

Physiotherapy graduates obtain tertiary education and a Bachelor’s degree. They have knowledge and practical skills in accordance with the requirements of the statutory obligation in health care which allow them to work with the sick and disabled using various physical methods of prevention, treatment and rehabilitation, including health resort treatment. They are also prepared to work in wellness and spa facilities.

A physiotherapist performs a medical profession that requires full physical and mental well-being necessary to establish and maintain contacts with patients as well as carry out a lot of different physical treatments during the course of the therapy. This requires efficient function of organs used for communication – speech, hearing and sight. The person should have a psycho-physical aptitude to work with sick and disabled people, be physically fit to be able to show and do physical exercise with them as well as perform therapeutic massage correctly.

Physiotherapy graduates have the skills and knowledge necessary to carry out rehabilitation in patients of all ages and with every disease and disability. This means they are able to shape, maintain and restore fitness and capacity which have been lost or reduced as a result of various diseases or injuries. They are prepared to perform physiotherapy treatments approved by modern medicine and assess their effectiveness. They are also ready to work in specialized rehabilitation teams.
